Under One Umbrella:

How Northbank Helped AvonRisk Simplify Multi-Entity Finance in Business Central Cloud

As AvonRisk expanded through acquisitions, managing separate on-premises Business Central environments became increasingly inefficient. Northbank helped bring those entities into a more connected cloud environment, reducing manual work, improving visibility, and making ongoing finance processes easier to manage.

What stood out about Northbank was that they already knew our business. They didn't just help us move systems. They helped us improve processes, solve problems quickly, and make better use of Business Central as our needs changed.

About AvonRisk

AvonRisk is a human-first technology and operations company built to help boutique risk management and claims firms grow without sacrificing what makes their work meaningful. Founded by industry operators who understand the pressure of running a specialized firm, AvonRisk provides the infrastructure, technology, training, and support that frontline teams need to thrive; amplifying seasoned judgment while clearing the administrative noise.

With a growing portfolio of entities under management, AvonRisk oversees a complex, multi-entity financial and operational environment, making scalable, reliable back-office systems essential to their mission. The need for clearer visibility, more connected systems, and less manual work became increasingly important.

Less Time on Manual Work. More Time on What Matters

The move to a unified cloud environment delivered immediate, measurable relief for the AvonRisk accounting team. It established a foundation for the organization to keep growing without adding back-office complexity.

  • Manual work eliminated: A process that once required manually creating, importing, and deleting journal entries across multiple instances is now handled automatically. The entire workflow is gone.
  • ~50% reduction in monthly reconciliation time: With all entity activity visible in one place, account reconciliations that previously required pulling from separate instances and cross-checking in Excel now take roughly half the time.
  • Consolidated financial reporting in a single run: Balance sheet and P&L reports across all entities can now be generated in one pull, no more manual Excel assembly before auditor handoffs.
  • Unified vendor master: Duplicate vendor records across entities have been eliminated. One vendor card, one payment selection, one source of truth.
  • Team self-sufficiency: Northbank's approach includes training the internal team to handle routine tasks, freeing their time for higher-value work and reducing the accounting team's dependency on external support for day-to-day operations.
A Partner Who Knew the Business

When it came time to make the move to the cloud, there was no shortlist. Northbank had been working with the AvonRisk team for years, starting with ad-hoc support and growing into a trusted extension of the accounting function. Aaron, their primary Northbank contact, wasn't just familiar with Business Central. He was familiar with their specific processes, their entities, and the way the organization operated.

That depth of institutional knowledge made the decision easy. Bringing in an outside partner would have meant starting from scratch. With Northbank, the migration could move forward with someone who already had the context and who they knew would do it right.

"There was no one else for us to even consider. They knew our processes and have been in the background to see everything."
— Ashley Rowland, Corporate Accounting Supervisor, AvonRisk

One Instance Fit for the Way They Work

Northbank led the migration from multiple on-premises Business Central instances to a single, unified cloud (SaaS) environment. All entities were consolidated into a single system, with company codes serving as dimensions, providing the accounting team with a complete view of activity across the entire organization.

The migration included importing all historical data, handled during off-hours to avoid disrupting daily operations. Beyond the migration itself, Northbank built tailored solutions to match the way AvonRisk's team works:

  • Invoice import automation for multiple entities, with custom criteria selections and logic built to match existing processes.
  • Revenue recognition overrides on selected accounts, ensuring deferred revenue journal entries are coded correctly at the system level - no more manual invoice-by-invoice review.
  • Custom check-printing templates formatted to AvonRisk's specifications, tested, and integrated with existing print workflows.
  • Ongoing optimization, including an upcoming Concur-to-Business Central API integration for expense reporting.

Throughout the engagement, Northbank took a deliberately measured approach to customization by flagging when a native system capability could meet a need just as well as a custom build, reducing long-term complexity and keeping the system maintainable by anyone.
